Description

A rabbit version of our popular fake fur Tug Trainer is the perfect toy to teach tug to dogs that are not tug motivated or to teach a dog to tug harder. It has all-natural rabbit fur on one side, reinforced mesh on the other and a waterproof liner in between. (Our fur comes from Spain from rabbit that is farm raised for meat and is all natural not dyed.) Fill the pouch with semi-soft treats such as cheese chunks, hot dogs or chicken. The harder the dog "bites" the pouch, the more food squeezes through the mesh and the more the dog is reinforced. A Velcro pull-open top gives quick access to treats. Soft-touch 1” (25mm) tubular nylon climbing webbing with a 7” (18cm) handle is stitched to the fur side. Measures 7” wide by 3” deep (20cm by 7cm). Length: 24” (61cm); stretches to 33” (84cm). Light-duty bungee. Finished side seams (no exposed seams) makes it easy to keep clean: after each use, clean with dishwashing detergent and rinse with water. Or machine wash, cold water; hang to dry. Not recommended for tough tuggers or large dogs.

    Excellent construction

Bought this tug because I was searching for a trainer to use with my young, soft-mouthed border collie puppy. As will all of Salty Dog's products this tug is impeccably made and extremely sturdy (considering it uses real rabbit fur). I give 2 stars for the design, and 2 stars for the construction. I knock 1 star because I was hoping the mesh on the back of the tug would be a little softer and more pliable than it is. I want to teach my puppy to grab onto tugs with a firmer grip and she is pretty food motivated so I like the idea of the softer treats "leaking" from the tug when she grabs on. However, she seems hesitant to bite the tug sometimes and I know it's because she prefers things she can more easily sink her teeth into. I'm going to try stuffing this tug with some fleece to see if the added bulk will be easier for her. Otherwise I will just save it for when she is older and her adult teeth have finished growing in.

    My Sheltie puppy loves it!

I bought this for my 9 month old Sheltie, Kip, who is not a strong tugger. I wanted to see if I could encourage him to tug harder. So far he loves it, particularly the bungee handle. Its a very well made toy. He can't open the velcro by himself, its too strong. That's the only downside.
